How I prioritized a project!

A week ago, I was working on a project at work. I had many tasks related to it. I thought I will work on the most important tasks first. But I still couldn’t prioritize amongst the important tasks. I then measured the effort required for these important tasks.

Effort Comprises of — Time, Cost, Energy in this scenario

At that point in time, I thought I am overthinking and wasting time; I started with tasks that needed Less Effort but had a High Impact. It solved my starter trouble. I felt motivated to take on the other tasks that needed a lot More Effort and had a High Impact. It was like climbing a mountain. I persisted and finally completed all the high-impact tasks.

I then didn’t have enough time to do other tasks. They weren’t Impactful Tasks though. So I chose to work on tasks that needed Low Effort. I was able to complete the Low Effort and Low Impact tasks. I was done with 95% of my work. I then worked on things that had Low Impact and Needed Lot of Effort(Some of these tasks could have been omitted). I would say 98% of the project was completed.

Fun Fact:

I used the same thought process while writing this post :-)

Srini :-)
